I am very worried about the delivery delay of this item as I live in Argentina and am travelling to the USA in two weeks to visit my friend in Arlington Texas where this item is being shipped. Please make extreme efforts to deliver soon so I can pick up my purchase during my visit.

I have had my kindle for several days now and have to say i love it! This is my firt e-reader and was unsure if i would enjoy readeing on such a device (a gift from my husband). The kindle is sturdy, but light, and i have not encountered any of the glitches others have complained about so far. The one comment i would have, specifically for people who have never used a device like this, is the the flash you see between pages, or screens, takes a little getting used to. I am not complaining, i had read reviews before purchasing that had talked about this, i am just saying it is a little disconcerting at first. While at first i did not think i would be able to get use to it, 6 days later i hardly notice it at all.
I have no previous experience to compare, but the books download quickly and everything relating to book reading runs smoothly.
The internet is a little cumbersome to navigate, but that is not what this device was purchased for. The kindle does what it was meant to do beautifully!

Here is a quick post on Japanese characters, for someone who needs such info.
I got my Kindle yesterday, and transferred Japanese PDF file via email.
* The Japanese document name shows fine on HOME screen.
(The email's attached file name is used as the document name on Kindle.)
* The Japanese contents look fine as well.
* The font is Gothic type. To my eyes, those characters are similar to Windows Meiryo font.
In general, Japanese characters are readable on Kindle 3G, and I'm satisfied with it.

If you can manage to figure out how to download a book, it's great to read on the Kindle. I got thru 42% of my first book and got an error message that I would have to delete the book and re-download it. I spent an hour with the useless documentation they provide (on the Kindle) trying to figure this out. Trying to search the documentation is an exercise in futility. THEY STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO BEFORE THIS IS THE TOOL YOU WANT FOR READING.

My Kindle shipped without being pre-registered to my account. The user manual informed me of my two options: "Select 'Settings' and then select "register". Alternatively, the manual told me, I could "... register (my) Kindle by visiting the Manage Your Kindle page on Amazon at..."
No too difficult, right? Well, it was extremely difficult because the 3G never came on. After spending 42 minutes on the phone with Amazon's customer service, the 3G finally worked. But not the registration. I tried both methods, but all I got was an error message. I must've read this error message about a million times:
"Your Kindle is unable to connect at this time. ... If the problem persists, please restart your Kindle..."
Today, three days after I received the Kindle (I am still in communication with Customer Service) it still says "My Kindle" on top of the home screen instead of displaying my Amazon account name. Consequently, I cannot sync or download books, surf, or do anything but look at materials I manually copied to the Kindle via USB.
Is there anybody out there who can help?
P.S. I live in Sweden, and have spent over $300 on a Kindle (shipping, import duty, phone call to Customer Service) that sells for $189 in the U.S. and doesn't even work properly. Not a good deal. I feel like telling Jeff about my grief.
