This product is great for thos who frequently write papers. July 29, 2010 M.Keezy This item, unlike some others, seems to be pretty close to what it is advertised. I, actually, had a copy of the previous version of Naturally Speaking 9, which doesn't even ressemble this new version. The accuracy is greatly improved and it seems to be much easier to use than previous version. However, the registration process can be pain depending on which version of this product you buy.
I am pleased so far by both this product and the seller. I simply placed the order and a few days later it arrived at my door without issue. I'll probably use this seller again if/when I decide to upgrade to a more advanced version of the program.
Just great July 29, 2010 Pustakadahulu (CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For last few days, I have been using speech recognition that is built into Windows 7 operating system. Though it was able to recognize my words, accuracy was not something that I would accept. But I thought it did a good job. After reading other reviews about the software, I ordered a copy from Amazon.com. I say this is simply amazing. The accuracy that the software provides you is nowhere near what Windows does. I'm typing all these things by speaking to the software. I am seeing great improvement in accuracy though my voice has not changed. If I can manage to dictate properly, the software will recognize every word that I say. I was very skeptic. I can confidently say that this is really good. I highly recommend it.
I installed this on Windows 7 and installation of very smooth.
If you can save 200 keystrokes and a, I think it is still worth it. The prices at Amazon.com is very good. Other retail locations are selling this software for 80 bucks.
It has been only one hour and am very impressed.
Thank you,
Harsha
Very Inaccurate, So I Rather Touch-Type With The QWERTY Keyboard July 26, 2010 Chen Yee (Vancouver, WA USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
When I got this software at OfficeMax in fall 2008 and after I setup the software and when I dictated into a microphone, guess what, my laptop misrecognized what I said ALL THE TIME. Therefore I rather touch-type on any computers.
Not only it messes up all the time, I prefer typing for other reasons:
1. When I dictate personal messages and e-mails, people around me can easily understand me, especially when I work w/ my colleagues in an office while on the job.
2. It's even quieter to type than dictating, so it's better and less awkward for libraries.
3. For some people, if they use the dictating method too much, they may forget how to type and spell correctly.
4. A lot of jobs do wanna hire people who can type since we're in the digital age.
5. Doesn't work w/ all computers, like some other reviewers I read.
6. Very expensive ($100) compared to the Mavis Beacon typing software ($15-$20).
Since I opened the software package and guess what, I could not return this software cuz OfficeMax doesn't allow returns on computer software, so that was $100 DOWN THE DRAIN.
I would not recommend this software, so u got to learn to TOUCH-TYPE on computers (preferably w/ QWERTY since that's most widely used), and the QWERTY keyboard layout is available on other devices like cell phones and electronic labelmakers. Since you see the QWERTY keyboards on many electronic devices, you will eventually be able to type 120 wpm. Right now I can type at least 60 wpm on the QWERTY keyboard, and I think I'll eventually be able to type > 100 wpm.
Nuace will not support their products July 20, 2010 bobby 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I own version 9, and it's only a few years old. I thought nothing of it when I tried to load it onto my new computer with windows 7. I knew I was screwed with the first pop-up. I called customer service and, sterotypically, reached a "software engineer" working out of a phone booth in Bombay. The first suggestion was, naturally, to buy an upgrade. They would throw in a free small Squishee and 10% off a sell-by date expired breakfast Burrito (Thank you, come again).
Next idea was to run the computer in "virtual" XP. I tried to explain that the usual way the computer biz works is that new O/S's work with old software, not the other way around. Then, I thought, well, why not embrace the Nuance concept and if the Smithsonian would make me a good deal on a well cared-for Coleco, I just might take that Beta-Max machine off their hands. I figure that this solution would work while I took the Nuance logic to the ultimate conclusion of storing my Abacus-derived data on clay tablets encoded by cone shaped symbols.
I have other Nuance software, but will never buy another item from them, unless I can get a pirated copy of it for $20 or so. What goes around comes around.
With new operating systems coming out, seemingly, almost monthly, I would advise anyone thinking about upgrading their computer in the next year or two to not waste their money on this unsupported, expensive software. It never worked great anyway, and required extra careful proofreading with "fresh eyes" to avoid possible embarassing gaffs and Spoonerisms.
Works great for me. I can speak faster than I can type. July 18, 2010 R. D. Fletcher (New Hampshire) I had an earlier version of NaturallySpeaking and had to go to 10.1 when I upgraded my computer to Windows 7. I actually bought version 10.0 and then went online to Dragon and downloaded version 10.1. This got me out of the deal a lot cheaper (Amazon to the rescue!)
I can see a big difference in the performance of this new version and I really like it. I would recommend it to most everyone, especially if you have any inclination to do a lot of writing. I find that being able to lean back and think about what I want to say is so much better than trying to concentrate on that stupid keyboard.
Of course like anything there is a learning curve but I don't think it's all that bad and it has a big payback, especially if you are a search and destroy kind of typist.
